Closing the Gap
A Strategic Roadmap for Spartanburg County Public Health
The Current Landscape
Richland County stands at a critical juncture. Our school immunization rate sits at 92.6%, which, while robust, still falls short of the 95% threshold required for community immunity. While religious exemptions remain low at 2.9%, 4.5% of student records are listed as "Missing or Incomplete." However, with 27 VFC providers serving the county, we have a strong foundation to close these gaps. Spartanburg also saw almost 1000 Measles cases - the largest outbreaks since the United States received its Measles-free status.
Strategic Recommendations
With an 9.6% religious exemption rate, the challenge is not administrative—it is cultural. We must address hesitancy through dialogue.
With 24 VFC providers, we have the infrastructure. The goal now is ensuring these resources are fully utilized by the community.
With only 1.5% of records missing or incomplete, our schools are doing an excellent job. We must maintain this high standard.
Sustainable improvement requires a supportive policy environment that prioritizes student health.
