Strategic Health Roadmap for Saluda County, SC

The Current Landscape

Saluda County has achieved a remarkable turnaround in school health safety. Since 2021, our student immunization rate surged from an under-protected 93.1% to an exceptional 97.8%, planting the community firmly above the critical herd immunity line. While religious exemptions rose marginally from 1.2% to 1.6%, the broader shield remains highly secure. Backed by a strong network of 6 VFC providers, our goal is to solidify these massive health gains through persistent vigilance.

Strategic Priorities

1. Anchoring the High Standard

Saluda's leap to 97.8% coverage is a massive win for public health. The priority now shifts to ensuring this high defensive margin is maintained year-over-year.

Preservation
Establish routine annual recognition programs for school health personnel to maintain rigorous record auditing and compliance.
2. Proactive Parent Education

Exemptions have increased only slightly. Delivering clear, science-based facts to incoming families keeps emerging hesitancy from altering our path.

Prevention
Equip local family health offices with easy-to-read educational materials detailing how communal protection guards vulnerable children.
3. Maintaining Provider Visibility

Our 6 local VFC providers are key pillars of this historic turnaround. Ensuring cost-free avenues stay hyper-visible prevents logistical access issues.

Access
Integrate up-to-date VFC clinic locations, hours, and zero-cost details directly within digital and print school enrollment packets.
4. Driving Policy Change

Sustainable improvement requires a supportive policy environment that prioritizes student health.

Advocacy
Provide policy analysis on vaccine requirements and encourage advocacy.
