The Documentation Gap
A Data Guide to Vaccines in Liberty County
The Current Landscape
Liberty County faces a critical gap in community health, compounded by outdated IT infrastructure that often leads to lost or incomplete immunization records. This tells a story of partial success overshadowed by documentation gaps. While toddler MMR vaccination rates sit at 79.2% (down 0.2 points from 2024), we see a significant disconnect in comprehensive coverage and formal records. Only 59.9% of toddlers (19-35 months) have completed their 7-vaccine series, and adolescent (13-17 years) MMR coverage is low at 65.9%. Furthermore, only 51.3% of children in childcare have certificates on file, and Kindergarten coverage sits at 91.4%—close, but falling short of the 95% threshold needed for herd immunity. While 3.1% of students hold a religious exemption, a concerning volume of children are listed as neither up-to-date nor exempt. These missing records are in part driven by a system that can often be challenging for local staff to use, is highly dependent on personnel being adequately trained, and does a poor job at meeting the needs of military families and other highly mobile families.
