Closing the Gap

A Strategic Roadmap for Jasper County Public Health

The Current Landscape

Jasper County stands at a critical juncture. While our overall school immunization rate sits at 90.3%, it masks severe localized vulnerabilities. Specifically, Ridgeland Elementary reports an 84% vaccination rate and Hardeeville Elementary is at just 82%—both dangerously below the 95% threshold required for community immunity. Compounding this, 8.5% of student records are listed as "Missing or Incomplete," and with only 3 VFC providers serving the entire county, access barriers are severely hindering progress.

Strategic Recommendations

1. Illuminating Blind Spots

The high rate of "Missing or Incomplete" records (8.5%) suggests a significant verification challenge. We cannot solve a problem we cannot fully see.

Engage Collectors
Improve transparency and reporting speed from registry.
Engage Reporters
Work with Schools & Clinics to improve data collection processes.
2. Strengthening Supply Chain

Having only three VFC providers creates a logistical bottleneck. We need to make the program financially and operationally viable.

Reform & Reimburse
Push state DPH to lighten VFC rules that might make mobile access easier.
3. Empowering Schools

Schools are the frontline. Administrators shouldn't have to reinvent the wheel; they need standardized tools and targeted help where rates are lowest.

Targeted Intervention
Deploy mobile vaccination units and focused community outreach specifically to Ridgeland and Hardeeville Elementary.
Standardize
Standardize non-compliance protocols to handle missing records consistently across all districts.
4. Driving Policy Change

Sustainable improvement requires a supportive policy environment that prioritizes student health.

Advocacy
Provide policy analysis on vaccine requirements and encourage advocacy.
