1. Urgent Reporting

Measles must be reported immediately. Do not wait for lab confirmation. Call your Local Health Department.

Designate "Person in Charge" Identify one staff member authorized to speak to health officials.

2. Check Immunizations

Verify Official State Forms Ensure every child has a valid, official state certificate on file. Hand-written parent notes are not valid.

Identify Unvaccinated Children Pull files for children with Religious or Medical Exemptions immediately. They must be excluded first if an outbreak occurs.

Verify Staff Immunity Staff must prove immunity (2 MMR doses or blood test). Staff without proof may be excluded for 21 days.

3. Isolation Steps

Prepare Isolation Space Measles is airborne. Use a room with a closing door. Do not use the general front office.

Review Symptoms with Staff Watch for: High Fever (over 101°F), Cough, Runny Nose, Red/Watery Eyes, and Flat Red Rash.

4. Communication

Strict Privacy Policy Remind staff: Do NOT post about illness or health department visits on social media.

Prepare "Holding Statement" Use this draft if parents ask questions. Do NOT send mass emails until Health Dept approves.

"We have been notified of a potential health concern. We are working directly with the Local Health Department and following their guidance. We will provide an update as soon as we have verified information."
