Protecting the Standard
Strategic Health Roadmap for Chesterfield County, SC
The Current Landscape
Chesterfield County continues to be a regional leader in community protection, maintaining a robust 96.7% student immunization rate. While the county remains safely above the 95% herd immunity threshold, recent data shows a slight decline from 97.1% in 2021-2022. Additionally, religious exemptions have increased from 0.5% to 1.4%. With 5 VFC providers serving our families, we have the infrastructure to maintain this high standard through proactive community engagement and sustained access.
Strategic Priorities
Chesterfield's 96.7% rate is excellent. Our priority is ensuring this success does not lead to complacency as regional rates fluctuate.
The rise in exemptions from 0.5% to 1.4% highlights a subtle shift. Providing parents with science-based facts early is essential.
Our 5 VFC providers are the county's backbone. Ensuring rural families have easy paths to these providers supports our high rates.
Sustainable improvement requires a supportive policy environment that prioritizes student health.
